The future is electric!

In the midst of a global pandemic, it’s great to hear that politicians are supporting green initiatives and setting aggressive targets. Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is set to ban new petrol and diesel cars in the UK from 2030, 10 years sooner than original plans - 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, but perhaps a breath of fresh air for the planet. We have unintentionally reduced the wear and tear of the Earth and, as a result, had notably polluted cities, such as Delhi, returning to clear skies.

As a result of the news shared by Boris Johnson, the momentum for electric cars should improve considerably. Conscious consumers will be forward thinking and looking to make the move ahead of the deadline. In heavily populated cities, the change from petrol to electric will result in noticeable improvements in air pollution. What's more - with electric cars, we can enjoy the pleasure of smoother gear changes, no noise, and no start-stopping at every traffic light.

A few of us may still be apprehensive to make the switch. If you’re not sold by the environmental benefits, now is a good time to mention that the cost of ownership is cheaper overall for an electric vehicle. Although there’s a higher entry point at the moment, the net benefit of lower fuel costs and no road tax starts to justify the initial outlay. With the support of the UK government for greener initiatives, manufacturers will naturally create more cost-effective models that will be accessible for all.
