The Line: A zero carbon eco-city
Zero cars, zero streets and zero carbon emissions. The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is launching a new eco-city called ‘The Line’ - the Prince stated that we need to transform the concept of a conventional city into that of a futuristic one. The zero carbon city is Saudi Arabia’s futuristic business hub which will be set along the Red Sea coast. So what will ‘The Line’ include? It’s suspected that ‘The Line’ will have capacity for one million people with the usual facilities such as schools, health centres and green spaces.
The $500bn project is suspected to create 380,000 jobs and will be powered by 100 percent clean energy, providing pollution-free, healthier and more sustainable environments for residents (just a reminder for us Brits, their average temperature is all year 32°C). Saudi Arabia may be known for being the top global crude oil exporter in the world, but this is most definitely a step in the right direction as they attempt to re-establish their kingdom as a modern country.
A city built around nature is one that we all imagine and we will now be able to witness in our lifetimes across the Red Sea.
